Must-have Summer Essentials

Summer is finally here, well here in Frankfurt at least. I can’t tell you how much joy this brings me. I can’t say I’m missing the British weather by any means. Germany is known for it’s hot summers and I say bring it on.

Now that the sun is shining bright and the temperature is on the rise a summer wardrobe is now needed. But what do you really need in your summer wardrobe? I’ve put together a list of some summer essential must-haves for you. I’ve tried at the best of my ability to find ethical or sustainable brands for you while putting this edit together.

  1. A good pair of jean shorts - I recommend a pair of vintage Levi’s and have them a tab bit big than you can wear them high up on the waist with a belt of on your hips with a swimsuit. I would suggest looking at places like depop, ASOS Marketplace, Urban Outfitters vintage, Beyond Retro or any vintage shop near you. You can even take a pair of old jeans and cut them into shorts. There are a lot of really great luxury brands out there doing amazing vintage looking shorts, but you don’t have to spend loads for a cool pair. Just remember to size up with vintage jeans.

  2. Breezy midi skirt - definitely one with pockets and a made of breathable cotton

  3. Basic vest - I highly recommend a white one and some fun colour

  4. Maxi or midi dress - if you can try a light fabric like a cotton or linen. This makes it more breathable for those hot summer days.

  5. Wicker hat - There are wicker hats all over the place but the majority of them will be cheap and not very quality. I recommend finding a brand that really cares about the artisans that make these hats as they are a lot of work. And if you purchase one that is made well then it will last a lifetime.

  6. Pair of amazing sunnies - check out the outnet for some awesome designer ones at a very decent price. I have also included some great sustainable choices for you too.

  7. One good pair of sandals - I highly recommend spending the money on a pair of Suicokes. I have had mine for years and I am still wearing them non-stop. I have also provided you with a few sustainable brands as it’s hard to find great sustainable footwear.

  8. Fun summer bag - I’ve included some summer bags that are great for the season and the beach. All sustainable brands.

  9. One great swimsuit - whichever you prefer, bikini or one-piece. I am still loving my leopard print Ganni two-piece! I found some amazing sustainable swimwear brands for you and they are awesome!!!!!

  10. Beach cover-up - I recommend a beach cover up that can also work as a dress for nights out on holiday. Check out Tallulah & Hope, they have some amazing ones.
