Shopping. Some of us love it, some of us hate it. And with our busy lives always in toll, we don't always have the time to just run out and pick out a dress or top when we need it. Lucy owner and curator of Born at Dawn understands this completely. Her goal is to bring you the best curated selection of designers right to your home.
Styling Sessions -Red
Can trends be sustainable? This is a question I have asked myself before and I thought others might be wondering the same too.I know you usually wouldn’t use trendy and sustainable in the same sentence, but I wanted to challenge this and prove that you could be trendy and sustainable at the same time.
Chit Chat Friday with Dilli Grey
I met Vicky at a Mothers Meeting a few years ago. I had stood up and introduced myself and my business, then girlstalktoboys and needed some buyer contacts. Vicky came up to me after the meeting and introduced herself and said she knew several buyers I could talk too.
It's a personal post. Yep one of those.
I sit here wondering how the hell did I get here. How did I become so fucking complacent with my belief system? When did my mind become so clouded with things that don’t actually matter? When did I start forgetting what really matters to me? I hope you’ve asked yourself the same questions so that I’m not alone here.
Sometimes what I want in life is so crystal clear and other times I can’t even remember what I was going for. It’s weird. It’s no secret that I’m a woman that loves many things and at times I find it hard to concentrate on just one thing. I love music and photography and fashion and styling and interiors, etc, etc, etc. But at some point you have to choose right? You have to focus.
The husband and I had a pretty blow out argument the other night. It wasn’t pretty. The kind of argument that makes you question everything about life and where you’re going and how the hell to into this rut and how the hell do you get out of it. You know the rut that makes you tired and angry and distant and sad. The rut that ruins marriages and dreams.
The initial starting point of getting out of a rut is to identify the problem. Asking the question what makes me happy? What makes me unhappy? Should I move? Maybe a scene change might be good? Maybe not? How does one take the first step to becoming happy? Then you have to ask the bullshit questions like, what is happiness, blah blah blah but it’s a valid question, what makes you happy, what makes me happy?
After the blowout the other night, I had to start taking responsibility for my actions. I had to start questioning my belief system. I had to start living what I was preaching.
For me a path to happiness is truly living the less is more lifestyle, because if I’m not happy with my middle class privileged life I’m sure as hell not gonna be happy with more. I started watching some documentaries about living with less and what consumerism is doing to our happiness and I am one that has been affected by this. I talk about buying less and spending money on nicer things but I too fall victim to buying for the sake of buying. And this is getting me nowhere except an empty bank account and an angry husband. It should be about using my creative abilities to come up with fun ideas about fashion and styling instead of following the path of everyone else and only looking to the high street or wherever for inspiration. Inspiration comes from those following a road less travelled.
In order for me to become an inspiration I have to stop following the crowd. I have to stand my ground and say enough is enough. I will not give in to consumerism, to trying to fit in, to having my eyes stuck to a screen. When did I become so selfish? When did I start turning to people for approval and when did I stop being creative in my own way? I have to start using my abilities to create more with what I have and stop searching for things to fill a void. And a very important question to ask myself, why is there a void in the first place? What am I missing? And how am I going to fill it? Have you guys ever been in this place? I would assume I am not the only one here, right?
What steps did you take to improving your life, steps towards true happiness? Because one thing I know is happiness has to come from me, I’m not going to find it anywhere else.
Here are some documentaries and books I would suggest reading. I’m suggesting these because I am trying to pave a new way for myself. I want to live with less, I want to spend less money, I want to spend more time with my friends, I want to collaborate with more people. I want my life to be about we and not me. And I truly believe this. I have to change my mindset and I hope you will join me for the ride too.
The True Cost - documentary
Living on One Dollar - documentary
Minimalism - documentary
Fashion Revolution - website
Black Neon Digital website/podcast
Just to name a few. I will be compiling a list of books and more documentaries, etc. If you have a book or website that you would like to share with me please do!!!!!
Let’s be happier together!
Ok all the personal bullshit is over.
Thanks for listening.

Wishlist: Dresses
I don't know about you but I love a dress. They are just so easy, especially in the warmer months. You don't have to think about it much. Pull out one of your beautiful dresses, pair it will a killer pair of sandals and viola the perfect outfit. With so much choice out there now, whether it be the high street or a designer brand, you will find a few dresses that will exceed your expectations. My problem is I've found too many dresses I would like to have hanging in my wardrobe.
When looking for a dress to buy, there are a few things I take into consideration;
1. what is the dress made of
2. it is easy to wear or will it be fussy
3. can I wear it all year round
4. will it pack well
5. does it suit my body type
6. is this a dress everyone will have on at a party because I hate that!
Now there are some dresses that will mainly be a summer dress but I like the option of wearing it all year round. This means you'll get the most wear out of the dress. It's all about smart buying. Buy a dress that is truly beautiful and has more than one purpose. Buy a dress that can be dressed up or down.
As I like to say Buy Less, Buy Better, Wear Always.
Below are a few dresses I am loving right now.
Scoop International Fashion Shows Review
Is there a better way to spend a Sunday then to roam around Scoop International Fashion Show and discover new brands? I think not. I met up with the lovely Judith from Maison Archives and we discussed life, fashion and clothing pieces we just had to have in our wardrobes.
Part of me would love to have a shop again and a physical one so I could carry some of the brands I discovered while at the show. I believe my shop would have the best-curated selection of fashion and accessories around. But I’m not going open a shop right now. So I’ll just have to curate my selection for you. And keep dreaming about having one in my head. One can dream right?!
The first brand I came across that totally blew my mind was Italian brand, Lucille. Their whole collection was literally breathtaking. Couture appeal without the price tag. Now they are not cheap but the pieces are obtainable and completely wearable. A big plus in my book.
Now their current collection AW17 collection, Iperchic and Supersnob, designed by Gaetano Navarra was inspired by the nineties subculture, Grunge. In this Collection, you will find a mix of romanticism, punk and Bohemia.
I saw their AW18 collection at the show and here are some of my favourite bits.
I also fell in love with Three Floor. The dresses were just immaculate and the colour scheme was so on point. I’m actually looking at a few dresses from their current collection to wear to a wedding in Berlin in April.
Australian Brand, Atoir caught my eye with their white polka dot plunging neckline dress. This dress is definitely on my wishlist. Designer Cynthia Farchiona, believes in the love at first sight enigma for visionary, unforgettable designs.
I liked the New York brand, Bibliotheque for its vintage inspired pieces. The collection seemed so easy to wear. Everyday pieces.
SERAPHINA
I met Fiona Hodges, founder of Seraphina (London & Goa) at Scoop and just fell in love with her brand. She grew up on her father’s tea plantation in Darjeeling. Captivated and inspired by the work of Indian artisans and their creation of block and screen printed textiles, she returned to India after working at VOGUE in London and Sydney, to begin the creation of her own collection.
Her dresses are so beautiful and can be worn all year round. I have my eye on a few. She has a pop up happening in Belgravia at 73 Elizabeth Street SW1W 9PJ starting 19 February go and check her out.
Now most of you know how much I love earrings!!!! I mean I love big earrings, the bigger the better. I can’t tell you how in love I am with Musula Jewels. They are truly unique. All their earrings are done by hand using the same embroidery techniques they use on bull flighting costumes. I can’t wait to have a pair of my very own.
http://www.musula.com
I spotted Celestie Mogador the moment I stepped foot into the Saatchi Gallery but didn’t actually have a proper look at the brand until I was about to head out the door for home. The French brand hand-embroidered all their jewellery and accessories and each piece is definitely one of a kind. My kind of jewellery.

I hope you enjoyed my finds.

Outfits Galore!
Let's talk about outfits shall we!!!??? It's probably my favourite thing to talk about by the way! I just love putting outfits together. My heart literally fills with joy. There are so many endless outfit opportunities in the world and there are also so many outfit opportunities right in your closet. Just think if you actually took the time and went through all your clothes and starting playing around with what you already have. You'll be surprised at what you can come up with and how much fun it is dressing up with your own clothes!!!
Now in this post I'm using polyvore to put some spectacular outfit options together and then I'm going to use these outfits as inspiration to create outfits using what I already have in my wardrobe. It's like shopping without spending a dine. I'm tricking myself!
Here are some outfits I put together that I'm very much in love with!

Intention!
Intentions. With the super moon happening today and the New Year behind us, I sit here wondering what my intentions are. What do I want this year to bring? Where am I going? How do I get there? These are all excellent questions, but it is my duty to answer them.
I have made a list of intentions and I plan on reading them out loud every day so I don’t forget or lose sight of what I wanted at the beginning of the year. It’s ok to change your mind or change directions. Sometimes this needs to happen. We may have the best intentions in place but life isn’t always a straight and narrow path. It likes to throw a curve ball your way to see if you are up for a new experience or a challenge; or if you’re willing to be flexible because sometimes the best things in life can come out of nowhere. You just have to be willing to go with it.
I have proclaimed from the highest mountain that this year, 2018, is my year!!!! And I truly believe it is. I’m ready for that curve ball, I’m ready for a new experience and one that may not have been on my list. What I want is love, contentment, self-worth and a plan to actually flourish into something great!
I’ve realized that when one makes up their mind and focuses and truly goes for what they want, most of the time it works. I’ve seen this with many women I’ve met recently. Maybe for these women it was the right timing, luck, connections – It was probably all of it combined. But I also know that a switch went off in their brain that said, I want this and I’m gonna get it!!!!!!
I’m ready for this switch to go off too! I’m searching for clarity and I know I will have it this year. All my hard work will flourish and become something beautiful and great and useful. I just have to stay focused and keep pressing on.
Here’s to all of our intentions!
What are your intentions? I would love to hear them!
My intentions:
- Investment for my womenswear label
- More paid styling jobs
- More youtube styling videos
- I would love a business partner so I can grow my business
- More love, happiness, self-love and contentment
- Build deeper and meaningful friendships
- This is a big one, a dream really, but I want a warehouse space so I can turn it into work/live space and have space for creatives to come in and work and film and make music and have classes for kids and adults and have big bonfire nights and have a small music festival every summer. Yep, total dream! Oh and host pop-up dinners.
- And a move to somewhere warm please!

A Christmas Guide
Who's started their Christmas shopping? I have, just, and I am so glad I planned it all out this year. To be honest, I don't have many people to buy for. My husband and I don't get each other gifts. We take ourselves to a nice dinner or plan a day out in London instead. We figured spending time together is better than buying each other material things. We mainly have to think of gift ideas for our daughter Edith, my niece and nephew, my brother-in-law and his partner and our parents. I do buy small gifts for my girlfriends. This year I am sending them all their Christmas gifts after the New Year so they have something special to bright up their dull January.
I've put together a beautiful selection of gifts that I would personally love to receive or give to a friend or family member. I try very hard to shop with a small business so I can support them while also giving a very unique gift. I feel it's so important to give a gift with meaning or that is special. I don't believe in buying a gift for the sake of it. You've got to put some thought into it.
Here are some great gift ideas for you.
1. Makeda Matheson - Intarsia V Sweater Pink Berry - This jumper is just gorgeous. I instantly fell in love with the colours when I came across it on Studio B Fashion's website. Made of Mongolian Cashmere, this jumper would last a lifetime. Why give gifts that last forever??!!!!
2. Andrew J. Miller - Pink Light - I am such a huge fan of artist Andrew J. Miller. London based Andrew uses instant film to achieve effects by manipulating the emulsion during the developing process, separating the image emulsion from the film base, double exposing the film, overlaying the transparencies or by varying the temperature and the developing time. This process adds mood to all his images. They are truly stunning pieces of art.
3. Chase and Wonder - Who doesn't love a great wash bag? I definitely do and I absolutely love this Chase and Wonder Lady in a Mask Wash Bag. I think I may buy this for myself.
4. Hoxton Mini Press - Have you checked out Hoxton Mini Press yet? They have the loveliest books, mainly London themed and they are the perfect coffee table book. They are the perfect gift!
5. Sophie Ward x Lollipop - Oh my God, I cannot tell you how much I love the recent collaboration between artist Sophie Ward and interiors shop Lollipop. Sophie has created limited edition zodiac sign silk scarfs and prints. They are seriously gorgeous!!!! This is definitely on my birthday wishlist!!!! Head over and have a look.
6. The Small Home - Sheepskin slippers are the perfect gift for this time of year. I fell in love with The Small Home's slippers. They are handcrafted and embroidered and are just so beautiful. Great price point too!
7. Roads - I understand perfume is very personal and has to be tested before bought, but I highly recommend heading out to Liberty's and trying Roads selection of stunning perfumes. I am obsessed with I Am Dance. To me, it's the perfect fragrance.
8. Konoc - For a smaller more personalised gift, I highly recommended heading over to Kong's website and ordering all your friends personalised leather keyrings. They are handmade by owner Sally and her husband. They are just beautiful. The perfect gift without breaking the bank.
9. Krait London - I'm a sucker for a great coat/dress. The Teal Flora Coat is beautifully made by artisans in India. All fair-trade by Krait London. Check out Alice's collection. Her wrap dresses are so beautiful and very very comfortable. I can't wait to get my hands on this coat and a pair of her trousers. They are very cool!!!!!
I hope my Christmas guide has introduced you to some new designers and given you some gift inspiration.

Skincare for Everyone
Skincare has been on my mind lately. I mean A LOT. I've been using the same product for years now, which I'm happy with for the most part, but I wanted to give an all-natural product a go. Like the mainstream beauty market, the organic beauty market has a lot to choose from and if I'm honest I never know where to start. I end up buying products I'll never use.
I came across Nadur via Instagram – yes the world of instagram. I had been looking for an organic oil cleanser to replace the one I have been currently using. I tried many non-oil organic cleansers but didn't find them suitable for my skin. But then I discovered the Genie, an oil cleanser by Nadur (‘nature’ in Celtic). I asked if I could try a sample and they happily obliged.
I've been using the Genie for a few weeks now and do like it. I started off as I do with every product: sceptical at first, but after using if for a bit, I'm happy with the result. It leaves my skin feeling very refreshed and clear. Because I use a waterproof mascara I have to use an additional eye make-up remover because nothing seems to take this mascara off! I hope to try their other products as well like their Visage Antioxidant Face Oil in the future.
They also have products for the gentleman in your life! The Smooth Pomegranate and Gotu Kola Shaving Serum sounds lovely and for those with beards they have Celtic Brew Condition Bread Oil. Sounds like a great stocking stuff to me!
I love the ethos behind the brand, 100% natural 0% comprise. They are fully committed to creating an all natural product suited for both men and women of all skin types. Focusing not only a natural product but also sustainable production. Exactly what I like to hear.
Here's a few bits of information from their website, because I couldn't write it better.
This is how we roll
Essential, minimalistic formulas that focus on maintaining and supporting the “acid mantle’, (the skins natural defense mechanism). Developed to address inflammation, (a common denominator in most skin issues) our clean formulas are made with natural, non-toxic ingredients selected for efficacy and performance.
Where the magic happens
Nadur formulas are a careful blend of science and artistry. Using “green chemistry” we harness nature’s freshest active ingredients to create products that are safe for you and good for the planet too!
Getting serious about quality
At Nadur we create all of our proprietary formulas, source all of our raw materials and manufacture our products directly. This ‘close to source’ process gives us greater control over the quality and authenticity of our ingredients which allows our customers to purchase with confidence and peace of mind.
Naturally ethical
As a brand we believe in the motto “beauty is as beauty does”. Our commitment to the environment is extended to all of the earth's inhabitants, people as well as animals. While we share the real and growing concerns for our natural environment and its wildlife, we are just as alarmed by the plight of the people that subsist in some of these environmentally fragile regions. Reciprocity, sharing and fair play are beliefs we work hard to promote. Supporting education and improving living conditions in deprived areas of the world has been and will continue to be of paramount importance to us as a company.
We are Now. We are Nadur.
So if you're looking for a new 100% natural beauty product, check Nadur out. You won't be disappointed.

Partywear
Let's talk about partywear shall we? I don't know about you but I've already been looking for my perfect party dress. I'm sure the party season has already started for many of you. When shopping for my wowizer party piece there are a few things I consider;
1. Make sure you find a brand no one else will be wearing! You don't want to show up to a party wearing the same Zara or M&S dress as someone else. Be creative and look around for smaller independent brands or vintage pieces.
2. Make sure it's comfortable. The last thing you want is to fill insecure in your party get-up. Look fabulous while being comfortable.
3. Buy something that is fun but also versatile so you can wear it again. There is no point spending money on something you will only wear once.
Here are a few pieces I have had my eyes on while looking around for my party attire.
Enjoy!
kelly xx
- Rixo Iris Dress - Navy Moonlit Sky - I am absolutely in love with Rixo. I haven't splurged on one of their dresses yet, but maybe it's about time I do. This silk number is just gorgeous and perfect for the party season but also outside the party season. Pair with some over the knee boots and girl you'll be looking so sexy!!!!
- Ganni Fayette Silk Dress - I am such a Ganni fan, I can't even tell you. And this little number is just a beaut and can be worn all year round. It's so versatile. Pair with some trainers for spring or some ankle boots for your fancier evenings. It's pricey but worth every penny.
- Customade Addi Cowboy Boot Glitter - Who doesn't like a glitter boot???!!! There are a lot of glitter boots out there right now on the high street, but what about purchasing a pair that will carry you through all year long. Glitter never goes out of fashion and these boots with brighten up any outfit on a dull London day. In my book they are a clear winner.
- Undress Aria Black Dress - The Aria dress, to me is the perfect dress. I just love the crossover back and the mermaid skirt. It's not too fancy for a party and can also be worn during the day with a pair of trainers and a an oversize crop coat. Done!
- Cloe Cassandro Bianca Jumpsuit Midnight Blue Silk - Who says you can't shop sustainably for a party outfit? London based Cloe Cassandro works with Bali artisans to create the most beautiful silk creations. I'm just loving this blue silk jumpsuit. It can take you from party season all the way to the beach.
- Kitri Alexandra Sequin Frill Sleeve - Sequins!!!! What a love affair! Add a bit of pizzaz to your party wardrobe this season with this stunning sequin frill sleeve number. Pair with some velvet trousers or leather mini skirt. Either way you will look fabulous.
- Rosita Bonita Scared Scarab Earrings - yes, it's no lie, I am a Rosita Bonita fan. Her earrings are just so cool and easy to wear. Her statement earrings will pop any outfit. I will be wearing a pair this party season.
chit chat friday with Jo Redmond
I met Jo at my pregnancy yoga class when we were all newly pregnant and, well, feeling pretty rubbish and definitely needed emotional support. I can tell you that we didn't end up doing much yoga in the end, it turned into a counseling session for all of us instead. But through these yoga counselling sessions I met some of the best friends that I have today. Jo is one of them. The ladies I ended up bonding with couldn't be more different to me, but it just worked and to this day I really, really cherish their friendship.
Jo is the ‘set-you-straight’ one in the group and I just love her for this. She is incredibly intelligent, has the kindest heart, but also likes it straight. Unlike most of my mama friends, she is not in the creative industry. She's a chemist – and a very good one at that. She's on a mission to encourage more girls to get into science because god knows we need them! I sat down and had a lovely chat with her about her career, being a working mother and science.
Read on for the interview.
1. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF. WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I’ve been a medicinal chemist working in drug discovery research for almost 10 years, working on medicines for different respiratory diseases for GSK. Medicinal Chemists design the shape, properties and synthesis of a prototype drug molecule. I typically work in a team of scientists from different disciplines with a common goal of testing a hypothesis to treat a disease. I love my job; I find it challenging and rewarding and am privileged to work alongside some really talented people. Before GSK, I did a PhD in Synthetic Chemistry at Imperial College London, and before that an MChem at the University of Oxford. I met my husband when we were undergrads and we now have two kids – a five year old little girl and a one year old little boy. Since children I work part-time; four days a week in the lab/office and a day at home with the children every Friday.
2. WHAT SPARKED THE IDEA OF BECOMING A CHEMIST?
I enjoyed Chemistry at school and just kept on following what I found interesting and felt I was good at. My PhD opened my eyes to a career in research in industry and the rest is history...
3. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEMIST?
Designing and then making molecules of very specific 3D shape by a series of reactions (basically like cooking, but more dangerous!) in the lab. I’ve always found the process beautiful, fascinating and really satisfying. And then we put them in a biological system and see what they do... Amazing!
One of the drug molecules I contributed to the invention of is about to go into clinical trials next year. It will be the ultimate test of whether what we designed is good enough to treat patients and the first time something I’ve worked on has reached this hurdle. I’m really excited to see whether it’s as good as we hoped…
4. WHAT CAN YOU DO OR WE DO TO ENCOURAGE MORE GIRLS TO GO INTO SCIENCES?
That’s such a difficult question! I’m not sure I have a very good answer... I’ve been into a few secondary schools as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) ambassador trying to do exactly that and I’ve never been convinced I’ve done much good. I think gender stereotyping of what boys and girls should be good at can be very damaging (“Delusions of Gender”, by Cordelia Fine is a great book on this topic) – I have sometimes got the impression that girls are afraid to have a serious try at a field that they believe females are less likely to excel in. Personally, I have always had a stubbornness to persist at things it has been implied by others that I won’t be able to do and I think it has always stood me in pretty good stead! Now my daughter has started school I’ve decided I will volunteer every UK science week to run some science workshops with her year group. The reception classes seemed to enjoy it last year and I can’t help thinking that a mum in a lab coat doing some exciting experiments might counterbalance a few stereotypes...?
Whilst I’m on the topic, I also think retention of more senior women in science and technology is really important. The presence of more experienced female role models as a junior scientist is affirming and motivating. This is one of the things that keeps me determined to continue with scientific research after having children. I have been really lucky in a lot of ways, with a brilliant husband who is committed to us working as a team at home and a company like GSK who are amazing at supporting flexible working for parents. But even with that, I have found it really hard returning to work; figuring out how to balance everything and dealing with being out of date and low on confidence after returning from maternity leave. I’ve needed all the support I could get and, despite really enjoying my job, have often questioned whether it was worth persisting with. But in my lowest moments, the mentoring and inspiration from more experienced women at work has strengthened me and convinced me that I would be able to work through the difficult times and, ultimately, be happier for it.
That was a long answer… Perhaps more than you bargained for…!?!
WHEN YOU AREN’T WORKING WHAT ARE YOU USUALLY DOING?
I am usually spending time with my family. If I get some time to myself, I’ll be at the gym or out running. And very occasionally (at least at the moment) I might make it out for dinner or a few drinks with my husband or with old friends.
5. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO TO WITH YOUR KIDS/YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE JUST YOU?
If I could choose anywhere to be with my kids, it would be exploring a beach, maybe Kynance cove in Cornwall. Or nearer home, it would be Queens Wood or the Heath. I really value the chance to find a peaceful, green space within London and our children love climbing trees, collecting leaves/stones/conkers/acorns/blackberries/flowers (random stuff that I then find going mouldy in my pockets or scoop out of the washing machine filter) and generally exploring. On my own, it would be central London, walking and mooching in the shops and cafes.
6. IF YOU COULD COLLOBARATE WITH ANYONE ON A PROJECT WHO WOULD THIS BE? WHY?
At the moment, it would be an expert in the field of biological chemistry. It’s a field I really want to learn more about and what better a way to learn than to collaborate on a project with a researcher for whom that’s their main interest.
7. WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN? WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO US?
I used to waste a lot of energy worrying what other people thought of about me. Quite soon after I’d met my husband I was engaged in a very typical spiral of anxiety about something someone had said to me/about me. He asked me if I respected the opinion of the person who had made the comments. I thought about it and decided, no, I didn’t really and he said; “stop worrying about it then”. It sounds so obvious, but it really wasn’t to me. I realised I could stop worrying about what everyone thought and choose whose opinions I really cared about. Most importantly, it set me on the road to being content with who am. Not bad advice to pass on....
8. IF YOU WEREN’T WORKING IN A LAB WHAT WOULD YOUR SECOND DREAM JOB BE?
A doctor. I wasn’t emotionally strong or mature enough to take something like that on when I was 18, but I’d love to be a little nearer to the people we’re trying to find medicines for.
9. WHO IS YOUR INSPIRATION/ROLE MODEL?
The people who are closest to me; my mum, my dad and my husband. They are, hands down, the three best people I know. They inspire me to strive to be the best I can be.
10. FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY?
Narrow boat holidays – we went every single year! Walking the dog with my dad in the early morning with the dew still on the grass and breakfast smells coming from all the other boats moored up on the canal.
11. ANYTHING YOU ARE WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT? ANY EXCITING NEWS?
I’m hoping to expand my scientific horizons a little in the next couple of years... I’m feeling a desire for something new. I’m making a start on this with a 12 month secondment to the Francis Crick Institute near St Pancras to work on a project related to searching for new cancer treatments. I’ll be working in a predominantly biology-focused lab, trying to develop a collaborative approach between industry Medicinal Chemistry and academic Chemical Biology. I’m really looking forward to it – I’m hoping to learn loads both scientifically and about new ways of working outside of my current sphere of experience.

London Fashion Week Festival
Let me take a moment to say, yes this post is very very late. I actually had it all ready to go right after I attended LFWF, unfortunately, my computer froze and I lost the whole post. I was too tired to start again, so I am finally starting again!
I had the pleasure of attending the London Fashion Week Festival with Emma from Finlay Fox and Karen from N4Mummy. We had a lovely time. This years designer showcase featured Fyodor Golan, which was absolutely fabulous. I can honestly say, I wanted the whole collection.
Fyodor Golan is a London based label with a distinct visual language catering to a seductive, fragile and fearless women. Both designers come from a Fine Arts background infusing expressive approach with clean geometric silhouettes, which was very apparent in their AW17 collection.
Some of my favourite looks from their AW17 Collection below.
After the showcase we had a chance to visit the shopping area which I found several very lovely brands.
North London mum with a whole lot of style. Leather goods handcrafted right here in London.
Family-run business since 2012, designing womens shoes that stand the test of time and are completely wearable and comfortable.
Needing a creative outlet, Nic started messing with all things glitter, realised she had a nac for it she taught herself how to make jewellery and the rest is history. Manufactured in London and Vegan Friendly!
Other brands I saw but didn't get any photos:
Morv London- They have this bordeaux dress that is to die for!
Millie Mackintosh - She has this amazing military blazer that is definitely on my wishlist
and many many more!
Thanks for reading!

A Mini Photoshoot
You’ve probably noticed recently I am kinda in love with this outfit. Yes I have posted a few photos of it on instagram, but I figured why not? When you love an outfit, post it! Let people know why you love it and promote the designers who made it too! Small designers need to be told that their products are loved!
I’m a big fan of promoting women. When women come together to support each other amazing things can happen. The outfit I’m wearing in these photos is designed by women. Let’s talk about the Super Her tee. Is it not amazing???!!!! I think this tee is so true, us women are all Super Hers, we are bold, brave, smart, forward thinking, supportive, creative, kind and all around kick ass!

Green Going
What exactly does going green mean? Well, to me it means responsibility, transparency and sustainability; and this applies to fashion, interiors, beauty and even our food. These three things are so important. It's our responsibility to ask the questions: Where does this product come from? Who made it? Is this product environmentally friendly? Now it may be hard to find a product that ticks all the boxes but if we all start encouraging our favourite brands to show more responsibility, transparency and sustainability then we just might start making a change.
Change starts with you. Ask yourself: Do I need another green shirt and am I actually going to wear it more than once? Over-buying is polluting our earth. I truly believe in buying less but buying better. How many times have you looked into your closet and said: I have nothing to wear!!!!!! Yes I know, I've been there many, many times. But once I started buying nice items, I stopped saying those 4 words. Because now I do have nice things to wear and beautiful ones too!
The fast-fashion buying cycle is an average of 50 times a year. A ‘buy-better-buy-less’ is 2 cycles a year. Just think how planning out your wardrobe each season will 1) save you money, 2) give you the best suitable clothing options for you that season and 3) help save the environment. I'm not saying go out and boycott the high street. What I am saying is: Think before you buy and remember you don't have to keep up with the masses. Find styles that work for you and occasionally update them. Go ahead and buy one crazy, on-trend piece; but don't buy 50.
A few ways you can go green:
1. Buy less, buy better
2. Shop small
3. Buy vintage or secondhand
4. An important one, wash your clothes less, this will help save water and keep your clothes lasting longer and looking better.
5. Customise your clothing with patches, buttons, or have it reworked.
I know I didn't go into loads and loads of details on how to go completely green, but be watching out for more tips and links to great websites that will educate you with all the right information.
One I would definitely start with is: Fashion Revolution. This website will give you the low-down on what you can do to help change the fashion industry for the better.
Here's a few brands above that I truly respect. These brands are stylish, well-made and care about transparency and doing their part. Enjoy

3. Sarah Bailey Green Girl Gang Jacket

Wishlist- A Few New Favs
Boy has the weather changed! I was in Berlin last week and it went from super mild to just about freezing. When packing for my trip, layering was key. I chose to pack pieces I knew would all work together just in case I had to layer up for a chilly day. I did, that's for sure.
But this post is not about what I packed for my Berlin trip, maybe I should put one together. It's about what I am eyeing up at the moment. All of which will look fabulous on and can be worn in many different ways. When shopping for new items for my wardrobe, I first think about how it will fit in with what I have already and ask myself: Will you get manyy wears out of this garment? It's so important for me to wear pieces over and over again. I'm so over fast fashion, it hurts my soul. Now don't get me wrong I do buy high street pieces. I think it's all about being selective. I've bought pieces from Zara that have lasted me years. To maintain a sustainable lifestyle it's about not over buying and choosing pieces for your wardrobe that are timeless and stylish.
So why are the pieces in this wishlist some of my favs at the moment?
1. Topshop Black Velvet Tuxedo Blazer - I think this blazer is a dream. From what I can see it is cut well and should hang nicely on. You cannot go wrong with a black velvet blazer in your wardrobe. Pair it with jeans and a logo tee or match it with a pair of black velvet trousers for a really nice party look.
2. Rosita Bonita Deco Wing Earrings - As some of you may know already, I am obsessed wth Rosita Bonitas earrings. I first found out about the brand through Studio B Fashion. I ordered the tiger earrings and have not looked back. I am now in love with the Deco Wing Earrings. They are just gorgeous and I promise you, you will wear them all the time. Her earrings are light and so so wearable.
3. Miista Leah Velvet Flats - Oh these flats have been haunting me! I tried them on at Miista's AW17 collection launch party and fell in love instantly. I couldn't decide between these and a pair of embroidered boots. I went with the boots, which I have worn a lot but I am now regretting not buying these beauties as I believe they are sold out (they come blue and red as well). They are handcrafted in Italy and are just gorgeous.
4. Gestuz Leopard Midi Skirt - I have had eyes on this skirt for awhile now. I consider leopard print a basic now. This skirt from Gestuz is such a stable as leopard print never goes out of fashion. It's midi which is a great length. This skirt can be worn with trainers, flats or boots. I plan on pairing this skirt with Zazou's Super Her shirt, but it also looks great with a big heavy jumper.
5. Knit Planet Smile Jumper Black - I just love Knit Planet. The husband and wife duo have created beautiful and wearable knits for both kids and adults. Their jumpers are soft, comfortable and wash extremely well. I have now bought myself two of their jumpers and plan on buying the same from my daughter. The Smile jumper is made with 100% merino wool and is machine washable. Super smart. I've already worn mine over and over again. You will not be disappointed.
6. Zazou Organic Super Her Shirt - I am a sucker for a soft logo tee. Logo tees are everywhere at the moment and don't seem like they will be going out of fashion anytime soon. To be honest, they are the easiest tee to wear. You can pair a logo tee with anything and it will look current and super on trend.
7. Veja V10 Natural Suede - Veja's are probably the coolest trainers around. I'm a big fan, I have 4 pairs. They are made of 100% natural materials which is really great. They are comfortable and look good with just about everything. I borrowed these shoes from Holly over at The Acey for a styling video and they are now on my wishlist as they are just so nice. I love the neutral colour, they will match with everything.
8. Rouje Gabin Dress with Dot Print - How chic is this dress? It's so French and wonderful. I just love the colour and the cross over detail at the front. It's unique, timeless and pretty. This dress is definitely a winner in my book.
9. Justine Tabak Petticoat Lane Dress in Black Corduroy- What a beautiful dress. This dress is such a staple. Pair it with the amazing neutral Veja's for a school run look or a pair of beautiful boots from Miista.
Well there you have it, some beautiful pieces I would love to add to my wardrobe. All these pieces are effortless and can be worn over and over again.
Happy Shopping!

Tunage Tuesday - Someone Great Session 9
I'm going to take you back a bit to some of my favourite songs from uni. To be honest they are still some of my favourite songs. Ask my friends which song they think of when they think of me, they'll probably say Birthday by the Junior Boys or Enjoy the Silence by the Cure or a song from M83. You see I've always had a very distinct taste in music. It's what makes me, well me.
I use to make mixtapes for my friends so they could hear what I was listening to at that moment. My dad use to get them too. He would call me up and ask if I had time to talk about the mixtape I made him. He would take me through each song one by one and tell me what he thought about them. My dad use to make mixtapes to back in college, he's the influence. And here I am making them for you today.
I just love sharing music with people, my heart literally wants to explode with excitement, because there are some many great songs out there. I associate memories with songs. Do you? When a certain song comes on like Birthday from Junior Boys, I can see myself back in Columbia, Missouri dancing with all my friends at a house party or walking down the street with a friend talking about life or the time when I actually got to see the Junior Boys in Austin, Texas. My friend Meg, Tyler and I had just left Austin City Limits Festival and were walking downtown when we passed a bar that said the Junior Boys were playing there. I went up to the door guy and asked if I could go in and said of course after you buy a ticket. I was so excited, I literally about had a heart attack! That night was truly a night I will never forget. I'm lucky to have so many amazing memories attached to such great music.
To music, memories and someone great.

Be the Light
In a world full of darkness I want to be a light. I'm so sadden by the horrible events that have unfolded recently. I sit in bewilderment wondering what would posses someone to hurt another human being. But believe it or not despite all the craziness that is occurring all around us there are good people in the world, people just like you and me that want to change the world for the good. It is our duty to bring joy, happiness and love to those around us and if each of us do our part in our own envirnoment then the world will be a better place. It's as easy as saying hello to someone in the morning or smiling at someone on the tube or asking someone if they need help. These little gestures matter and they will make someone feel good and feel special. Be the Light to those around you.
Let's meet a women that is trying to bring joy to those around her, Lynsey, owner and designer of Bax and Bay. Lynsey launched Bax and Bay back in 2015 with a capsule collection of baby changing bags called the cub bag but since has expanded the collection adding t-shirts and accessories for kids and adults. Her womens t-shirts are uplifting, fun and are guaranteed to put a smile on your face with their bright motifs, hello sunshine slogans and her ever so popular mama fox tee. Better yet a percentage of every purchase goes to one of the many charities they support.
I am just loving her brand new Be the Light Sweatshirt in grey. It's soft, oversized and has the best slogan money can buy right now. It says it all, Be the Light. That's what I am trying to do and I hope you are too.
tunage tuesday- transition session 8
It's Tunage Tuesday and this means we have a great playlist for you today that will take you through the week! As I've mentioned before I am a huge music lover. There is always music on in our house. Music brings me ease.
This week is all about transition, as we have just made the transition from summer into autumn. This can be very symbolic of our lives as well. Many people go through changes in their personal lives as one season fades into the other.
Transition is a good thing. It means we are moving forward and that is never a bad thing.
I hope you enjoy this weeks playlist.
Happy listening!
